On November 9th we went to Cork City Hall. Evelyn Grant and the Cork Pops Orchestra entertained us at this year’s Cork Pops Orchestra Concerts for Schools Series.
The orchestra played waltzes, Beatles songs, slow, lively and quick pieces of music. We were introduced to the wind instruments – flute, bassoon, clarinet, oboe, French horn, trombone and trumpet.
The orchestra explored the ‘blurred boundary between fine arts and media arts’ in collaboration with D.J. Dashka who combined old and new technologies for this event.
Dashka is an award-winning music producer, composer, D.J. and instrumentalist from Cork. His productions have been signed to the biggest global record labels, and he has performed D.J. sets as far afield as Miami, Ibiza and Dubai. He also composes music for film. He presents a weekly 3 hour specialist radio show on Spin Southwest, and was awarded a Masters in Music & Technology from Cork School of Music.
Keith Hanley, the winner of ‘The Voice’ (2013), was there too and he sang the songs ‘I see a Rainbow’, ‘Somewhere over the Rainbow’ and ‘Purple People Eater’ with us. He also sang a song that D.J. Dashka played along to.
We all really enjoyed this and loved being part of an audience at this event
